New Haven in Connecticut has appointed Michael Simeone as its first Chief Technology Officer. In this role, Simeone will be responsible for overseeing all technology and technological resources for the city. He will also develop strategies and growth plans for both the city and the Board of Education. Simeone expressed his excitement about the new position and his eagerness to work with Mayor Elicker, Dr. Negrón, and other city officials to enhance technology operations and efficiency.

As the Chief Technology Officer, Simeone will work closely with the mayor and superintendent to supervise IT staff, manage the technology budget, and ensure quality assurance processes are in place. His goal is to align technology objectives, investments, and initiatives across the City of New Haven and the Board of Education. With over 25 years of IT executive management experience, Simeone is well-equipped to lead in this new role.

Prior to his appointment, Simeone served as the Chief Information Officer at Bendett & McHugh, P.C., one of Connecticut’s largest law firms. In this role, he oversaw a team of IT professionals and managed technology support for the firm’s client base, which included major financial institutions. His expertise in information technology and cyber security will be valuable in guiding New Haven’s technology operations going forward.

In recent events, the city’s Board of Education fell victim to fraud when $6 million was stolen from a compromised email account. Fortunately, $3.6 million of the stolen funds have been recovered. As the new Chief Technology Officer, Simeone will work to strengthen cybersecurity measures and prevent similar incidents from occurring in the future.
