Data labeling or computer annotation may seem mundane, but for Cody Hart, who is neurodivergent, it adds value to his life. Hart expressed that working at Enabled Intelligence in Falls Church, Virginia has allowed him to live for himself in a way he did not have the freedom to do in the past. Previously, he struggled in his job at a grocery store deli and felt that he was not understood due to his ADHD and other neurodivergent traits.

Enabled Intelligence is an AI technology company that provides data solutions for the U.S. defense and intelligence community. Recently, the company announced plans to recruit 100 AI data annotators who are neurodiverse, such as individuals on the Autism Spectrum, ADHD, Dyslexia, and more. Applied Intelligence CEO Peter Kant highlighted the unique skills that neurodiverse individuals bring to this work, including detail orientation, hyper-focus, pattern recognition, puzzle-solving skills, and analytical abilities.

Melwood, a nonprofit organization that provides jobs and opportunities for people with disabilities, has partnered with Enabled Intelligence to help prepare workers through a 14-week boot camp. Hart, a graduate of the Melwood program, emphasized the importance of gaining IT certifications and soft skills needed to succeed in the workforce. Melwood President & CEO Larysa Kautz spoke about how this initiative is not just about employment but also about creating a pathway for a successful career.

On Wednesday, three Virginia Democrats, Congressman Don Beyer, Senators Tim Kaine and Mark Warner, spoke to employees at Enabled Intelligence. They played a role in securing $307,000 in federal funding to support Melwood’s Neurodivergent Workforce Initiative. Hart expressed gratitude towards the people and organizations that helped him find this job, emphasizing the importance of programs and services that support individuals like himself.
