Oatzempic and Golf season: Health Benefits in Focus

A new social media trend is taking the weight loss formula of Ozempic and putting a twist on it by using oats instead. This new trend is called “Oatzempic” and involves making a smoothie with regular oats, water, lime juice, and possibly a dash of cinnamon. Advocates of Oatzempic claim that drinking this smoothie every morning can help you lose 40 pounds in just 2 months. The recipe is quick and easy to blend, and the aim of the grainy drink is to keep you feeling full for longer periods of time.

Despite the health benefits of oats, Jenny Reay, a registered dietitian and weight management coordinator at OSF HealthCare, cautions that Oatzempic is not a “miracle smoothie.” She explains that while the smoothie may help you feel full for a few hours until your next meal, there is no scientific evidence to support the claim of significant weight loss in such a short period of time. When compared to meal replacement shakes, Reay notes that the key ingredients like protein, fiber, carbohydrates, vitamins, and minerals are missing in the Oatzempic trend.

With the arrival of spring, golf season is in full swing, and many enthusiasts are hitting the links to enjoy the sport. Before heading out to play, it’s important to prepare your body for the long season ahead. If you haven’t maintained a fitness routine over the winter months, experts recommend starting with a stretching routine to improve flexibility and range of motion. Cardiovascular exercises like running, swimming, and cycling can help improve blood flow and assist with weight management.

Matthew Davidson, a physical therapist with OSF HealthCare, suggests starting with 9 holes before progressing to walking 18 holes to prevent injuries at the start of the season. Before teeing off, it’s essential to allocate 10-15 minutes to properly stretch your back, hamstrings, abdominals, arms, and shoulders to prevent strain during the game.
