The 21st Century India Center at the UC San Diego School of Global Policy and Strategy is hosting an event titled “India’s Economy in the Next Quarter Century: Opportunities and Challenges” on Thursday, May 9, 2024, from 2 PM to 6:30 PM. The event will take place in the Malamud Conference Room at the Institute of the Americas and is open to individuals aged 18 and above. Admission is free for all attendees.

India recently marked the 75th anniversary of its independence and has undergone significant transformations in the past few decades. It is now the world’s most populous country, the fifth-largest economy globally, and one of the fastest-growing economies in the world. Despite these achievements, India continues to face fundamental challenges in its development journey.

The event aims to bring together leading economists to discuss current research insights and explore ways in which academic work can contribute to addressing India’s most pressing economic issues in the next 25 years. The keynote speech will be delivered by Michael Kremer, a University Professor at the University of Chicago and co-recipient of the 2019 Sveriges Riksbank Prize in Economic Sciences. Additionally, Karthik Muralidharan from UC San Diego, and author of the book “Accelerating India’s Development,” will give a special lecture.

The agenda for the event includes panel discussions, a keynote and special lecture, and a reception for attendees. This public event is organized by the 21st Century India Center at the UC San Diego School of Global Policy and Strategy. For more information on India-related activities, visit india.ucsd.edu.
