During a fireside chat at the Oracle Health Summit in Nashville, Ellison expressed his belief that the health-care industry is at the forefront of their concerns. He admitted that the announcement was spontaneous, following a conversation with Frist, a seasoned health-care industry veteran and former Senator from Tennessee. Ellison acknowledged his impromptu remark, stating that he “shouldn’t have said that.”

Oracle, which relocated its headquarters from Silicon Valley to Austin, Texas, in 2020, has been expanding its presence in the health care sector. This includes the acquisition of Cerner, a leading medical records software company, for $28 billion. Despite being relatively new to the health-care space, Ellison emphasized that Oracle feels a moral obligation to address the pressing issues within the industry.

Nashville has long been a key player in the health-care landscape, boasting a thriving ecosystem of health systems, startups, and investment firms. The city’s reputation as a health-care hub was solidified when HCA Healthcare, a pioneering for-profit hospital company, was established there in 1968. This served as a catalyst for attracting a large pool of health-care professionals and organizations to Nashville.

Oracle has been constructing its $1.2 billion campus in Nashville for approximately three years, as reported by The Tennessean. Ellison stressed his company’s commitment to the city, stating that their employees enjoy being there and view it as the focal point of their future endeavors. Oracle did not provide an immediate response to CNBC’s request for comment.
