Organisation CREW files criminal complaint against Trump for Chicago business dealings

A complaint was filed today by Citizens for Responsibility and Ethics in Washington, urging the FBI and Department of Justice to investigate Donald Trump for allegedly making false statements on his public financial disclosure reports. The complaint accuses Trump of knowingly and willfully claiming to owe more than $50,000,000 to his Chicago business between 2015 and 2023, despite the Trump Organization stating that this loan never existed.

According to the complaint, making false claims about debts could be a part of a tax avoidance scheme or could be concealing a hidden debt to another party. CREW President Noah Bookbinder highlighted the seriousness of this issue, stating that lying on government disclosures is a potential violation of criminal law and undermines public trust in the integrity of the federal government.

Public financial disclosures are meant to ensure that high-level government officials can carry out their duties without conflicts of interest, and falsifying these reports could damage public confidence in the system. Bookhbinder stressed that no one, not even Donald Trump, is above the law and called for the FBI and DOJ to conduct a thorough investigation into the matter.
