Kate Santoli, a student at Lynbrook High School, along with her teammates Katy Gottlieb and Gabriella Ramirez, achieved fourth place in the Junior Science and Humanities Symposium. This outstanding accomplishment earned them a spot in the national competition. Santoli, as the team leader, presented their research at the regional competition in New Mexico from May 1 to 4. Alongside high school students from across the country, Santoli showcased her team’s work.

In addition to Santoli’s success, Eric Reilly also performed well by claiming seventh place in the competition, making him an alternate for the national event. The Junior Science and Humanities Symposium hosted the largest number of participants to date, with over 800 projects from Long Island being presented. In January, 163 students from Long Island were selected as semifinalists, and by February, only the best 16 were chosen to compete at the regional level. The competition was fierce, but Santoli and her teammates rose to the occasion, showcasing their talents and dedication to science.
