Palestinian Authority Chairman Mahmoud Abbas announced that the PA would reassess its relationship with the United States and blamed the US for escalating tensions in the Middle East. Abbas criticized the American administration for blocking a resolution in the UN Security Council that would have granted Palestine full membership in the organization. Despite receiving support from 12 out of 15 countries, including abstentions from the UK and Switzerland, Palestine currently only holds observer status.

The PA’s decision to reconsider its relations with the US comes in response to the recent actions of the American administration. Abbas expressed his frustration with the US for obstructing the resolution in the UN Security Council, which would have been a significant step towards full recognition of Palestine. The Chairman emphasized the importance of international support for Palestinian statehood and expressed disappointment in the US for hindering progress in this regard.

Abbas’s criticism of the United States reflects the ongoing diplomatic challenges faced by the Palestinian Authority in its pursuit of statehood. The Chairman’s remarks underscore the frustration felt by many Palestinians over the lack of progress in achieving their aspirations for independence and sovereignty. The PA’s decision to reassess its relationship with the US indicates a willingness to explore alternative avenues for advancing the Palestinian cause on the global stage.
