The President of Colombia, Gustavo Petro, responded to Israel Katz, the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Israel, who criticized the Colombian president for breaking diplomatic relations with Israel. Katz accused Petro of siding with despicable monsters, referring to Hamas. In response, Petro stated that the real monster is the genocide committed by Israel’s Prime Minister, Benjamin Netanyahu.

Petro announced the decision to break diplomatic ties with Israel in retaliation for the Israeli Army’s offensive against the Gaza Strip, resulting in numerous Palestinian casualties. This decision was made following the UN Security Council’s resolution for an immediate ceasefire during Ramadan, which Israel failed to comply with.

After the escalation of violence between Israel and Palestinian militias, resulting in deaths and hostages, Petro proposed a peace commission to facilitate talks for the release of kidnapped individuals in Gaza. The Colombian president has been actively involved in seeking ways to reduce hostilities and promote peace in the region.

Petro’s stance on the Israeli-Palestinian conflict has garnered criticism from Israel, but he remains committed to advocating for a peaceful resolution and condemning acts of violence and genocide. His decision to sever diplomatic ties with Israel reflects his strong position on ending the conflict and promoting dialogue and understanding between the two sides.
