A new poll conducted by ABC News/Ipsos found that more Americans trust former President Trump over President Biden when it comes to the economy and inflation. The poll revealed that these two issues are among the top concerns for Americans in the upcoming presidential election. A large percentage of respondents, 88%, stated that the economy was a critical factor in deciding who to vote for, while 85% said the same for inflation.

Regarding the economy, 46% of Americans trust Trump, while only 32% trust Biden. Another 21% said they do not trust either candidate on this issue. Similarly, 44% of respondents trust Trump to handle inflation, compared to 30% who trust Biden. Again, 25% said they trust neither candidate on this issue.

The poll also showed that more Americans feel financially worse off since Biden took office. 43% reported a decline in their financial situation, while 40% said they were about the same, and 16% felt they were better off. Additionally, in a hypothetical head-to-head matchup between Biden and Trump, the race remains close. Among all adults surveyed, Trump had 46% support compared to Biden’s 44%. However, among registered voters, Biden led with 46% support to Trump’s 45%. Among likely voters, Biden extended his lead with 49% support versus Trump’s 45%.

The ABC News/Ipsos poll was conducted online among 2,260 adults from April 25-30 and has a margin of sampling error of 2 percentage points.
