President Joe Biden of the United States signed a law on Wednesday that had been approved by the Senate the previous day. The law allocates military aid to Ukraine, Israel, and the Indo-Pacific region, including Taiwan. It also includes a provision requiring the Chinese company ByteDance to sell the social network TikTok within a year to prevent the platform from being banned in the country. The aid package amounts to $60 billion for Ukraine and $26.4 billion for Israel.

After signing the law at the White House, President Biden expressed that it was a good day for the United States, Europe, and world peace. He announced that the US would begin sending air defense ammunition, artillery, and armored vehicles to Ukraine in the next few hours. The Secretary of State, Antony Blinken, also confirmed that the first weapons package valued at $1 billion was being shipped to Ukraine.

In response to the requirement to sell TikTok, China’s government reiterated its earlier accusations against the US. The TikTok CEO, Shou Zi Chew, stated in a video that the company would appeal the US government’s measure in court and was confident of winning the case.
