Rai files complaint with Serena Bortone over Scurati case

Rai has submitted a letter of disciplinary complaint to Serena Bortone regarding a post she published on her social profiles on 20 April about the Scurati affair. In response to the protest, Bortone is asked to provide justifications and clarifications. The company reiterated this stance through its CEO, Roberto Sergio, during a hearing at the Supervisory Commission. Sergio emphasized that the complaint is a request for explanations, not a disciplinary provision, and that actions will be taken based on the information provided.

The CEO also addressed the issue of a writer whose monologue was cancelled on the “Che Sara” program. He clarified that there were no prohibitions against the guest’s participation or the reading of the monologue, which was ultimately performed by Bortone on the broadcast. The complaint against Bortone stems from a violation of company policy regulations regarding public statements on company activities and events. The CEO stressed that this is a necessary action according to company regulations.

Furthermore, Rossi, the general manager of Rai, expressed concerns about potential violations in the case of Bortone and emphasized the need for all employees to adhere to company rules. However, Usigrai criticized the disciplinary proceedings against Bortone as unacceptable. The issue was also raised in the Supervisory Committee, with one deputy describing the situation as concerning for democracy in the country.

Aside from the Bortone affair, the CEO discussed various topics during the hearing, including the company’s performance, ratings, and advertising revenue. He also addressed other issues such as the airing of programs and a case involving John Travolta at the Sanremo Festival. The CEO highlighted the need to protect Rai from fake news and defend its reputation. The company is also working on hosting discussions between political leaders ahead of the European elections.

In conclusion, the CEO emphasized the importance of upholding standards and legality within Rai, while also addressing challenges and controversies the company has faced. The hearing shed light on various aspects of Rai’s operations and the efforts being made to maintain its integrity and reputation.
