The Managed Care Cast episode from The American Journal of Managed Care® introduces a new series by the Center on Health Equity and Access, focusing on programs dedicated to reducing health care disparities by improving accessibility. The series aims to showcase actionable frameworks for enhancing equity in the health care industry.
One of the action items suggested is to expand services and reach to more underserved populations. It also recommends promoting the destigmatization of unstable housing, substance use, and mental health care through training within the health care system. Another important suggestion is to educate peers on how to care for marginalized populations and develop effective health equity initiatives.
The series “Frameworks for Advancing Health Equity” will highlight innovative programs developed by health care centers and their partners. In the first episode, the Urban Health Outreach program by the Center for Inclusion Health at Allegheny Health Network is featured. Mary Sligh, CRNP, team lead of Street Medicine, and Chelsea Chappars, project manager for Urban Health Outreach and Humane Health Coalition, discuss their approach to providing care for individuals experiencing homelessness.
