The world premiere of a new musical, “A Face in the Crowd,” is set to take place at London’s Young Vic Theatre. Based on the 1957 film, the stage adaptation features a score by Elvis Costello and a book by Sarah Ruhl. The production is being directed by Kwame Kwei-Armah, who will be stepping down as artistic director of the Young Vic Theatre following this show.

The lead roles in the musical will be played by Ramin Karimloo as Lonesome Rhodes and Anoushka Lucas as Marcia Jeffries. The story follows a radio producer who gives a jailed drifter a chance on the airwaves, only to face unexpected consequences. Additional casting for the production will be announced at a later date.

The musical has been in development for several years, with readings in New York in 2016 and songs from the score performed by Costello himself in previous concert engagements. The production will feature lighting design by Jackie Shemesh, music supervision and direction by Phil Bateman, sound design by Emma Laxton, and choreography by Lizzi Gee. Heather Basten is in charge of casting for the show.

Tickets for “A Face in the Crowd” are currently on sale at YoungVic.org. Performances will run from September 10 to November 9, with the opening night scheduled for September 17. Don’t miss this exciting new production in London’s vibrant theatre scene.
