Reggie Bush to reclaim his Heisman Trophy

Reggie Bush, who won the Heisman Trophy in 2005 while playing for USC, will be receiving the trophy back almost 20 years later. He had forfeited the trophy in 2010 after USC faced sanctions for violations that included Bush receiving improper benefits during his time with the Trojans. This move to reinstate Bush comes at a time when college players are now allowed to earn money from their name, image, and likeness, marking a significant change in college athletics.

Michael Comerford, the president of the Heisman Trophy Trust, mentioned the significant changes in college athletics as the reason for Bush getting his trophy back. Bush expressed his excitement to be reunited with his fellow Heisman winners and to be part of the prestigious legacy of the Heisman Trophy once more. He also mentioned his honor in returning to the Heisman family and working with the Heisman Trust to further its values and mission.

Other Heisman winners, like Johnny Manziel, have shown their support for Bush’s return to the Heisman fraternity. Manziel had previously stated that he would boycott the ceremony until Bush was reinstated. With the recent news, both Bush and Manziel could potentially be present at the Heisman ceremonies in 2025.
