In a recent Reuters/Ipsos poll, U.S. voters expressed their views on the economy and the upcoming presidential election. The poll showed that 41% of respondents believe that Republican presidential candidate Donald Trump has a better approach to the economy compared to President Joe Biden, who received 34% of support. The remaining respondents either were unsure or believed that neither candidate was better. Trump’s advantage on economic issues increased to seven percentage points, showing a trend of improvement from previous months.

On the other hand, Biden had a nine-point advantage over Trump in the areas of political extremism and protecting democracy. This shift in opinion among respondents highlights the complex factors that influence voter sentiment. The economy and political extremism were identified as major concerns among respondents in the poll. The state of the U.S. economy remains a significant factor for Biden as he seeks reelection.

Concerns about consumer prices and the jobless rate continue to shape public opinion on the economy. Biden’s age, at 81, also raises concerns among voters. The poll showed a slight decrease in approval ratings for Biden, dropping from 40% in March to 38% in April. The margin of error for the online poll, which surveyed 1,016 U.S. adults nationwide, was three percentage points.

Trump, currently 77 years old, faces challenges with four planned criminal trials, including charges related to falsifying business records and efforts to overturn his loss in the 2020 election. His false claims of election fraud have been a point of contention, particularly following the events at the U.S. Capitol on January 6, 2021. The upcoming presidential election between Biden and Trump is expected to be closely contested, with both candidates having similar levels of support in previous polls.
