Rivian Cuts Jobs and Postpones Georgia Factory Amid Delays

Rivian, like many other electric-car manufacturers worldwide, has been facing challenges, including stagnant demand. The company recently announced its fourth wave of layoffs, with over a dozen employees sharing posts about the job cuts on LinkedIn. A spokesperson confirmed the layoffs, stating that they are working to right-size the business and align with priorities. The layoffs affect around 1% of Rivian’s workforce as they aim to be gross margin positive by the end of the year.

At the end of 2023, Rivian employed nearly 17,000 workers in North America and Europe. This is not the first time Rivian has had to implement layoffs, with previous rounds in February, February 2023, and July 2022. The company recently delayed the opening of a new factory in Georgia and decided to produce its R2 vehicle at its existing facility in Illinois.

Rivian’s struggles come amidst a broader trend of slowing demand for electric vehicles. Other companies, like Tesla, have also announced job cuts in recent weeks. If you are a Rivian employee affected by these layoffs, you can reach out to the reporter at gkay@insider.com.
