During a campaign closing event on Wednesday, the opposition presidential candidate Romulo Roux called on Panamanians to vote for a change in the Constitution and dismantle the political system that he believes shields corruption. He urged his followers to vote for this change on May 5th, emphasizing the need to rid the country of corrupt practices.

Roux, who is 59 years old and represents the center-right, made these remarks at a rally in James of Veraguas. He expressed his desire to “finish forever with corrupt politics” and create a system that upholds transparency and accountability. Roux is one of eight presidential candidates in the upcoming elections, where a simple majority will decide the winner.

Despite facing tough competition from candidates like José Raúl Mulino, Martin Torrijos, and Ricardo Lombana, Roux remains committed to his vision of constitutional reform and systemic change. He has promised to create jobs, raise minimum pensions, and revitalize the economy if elected. Additionally, Roux aims to build a railway connecting the capital to the western province of Chiriqui.

In his campaign, Roux has emphasized the importance of choosing between continuity with the current corrupt system or real change that prioritizes the well-being of the Panamanian people. He has positioned himself as a viable alternative to the status quo, offering a fresh perspective and a bold plan for the future.

Roux’s political history, including serving as chancellor and minister under former president Ricardo Martinelli, has not deterred his supporters. He has distanced himself from past scandals and focused on presenting a platform that resonates with the concerns of everyday citizens. With just days left until the election, Roux remains hopeful that his message of reform and progress will win over voters and usher in a new era for Panama.
