Dr. Kamal Agarwal, a professor in the School of Business at Howard University, has been involved in a fatal crash in front of Cook Hall earlier this month, according to the School of Business. Agarwal, who is 72 years old, was driving his car at a high speed on 6th Street NW and Fairmont on April 11 when he failed to negotiate a left turn, resulting in a collision with Howard freshman Mohamed Samura, as reported by the Metropolitan Police Department (MPD).
Unfortunately, Samura, an 18-year-old student, passed away on April 15 due to the injuries sustained in the crash. Agarwal has refrained from commenting on the incident due to his health condition at this time. The School of Business Dean, Dr. Anthony Wilbon, expressed sadness at the news of Mohamed’s death and stated that Agarwal is currently at home recovering from his injuries.
Following the tragic accident and the loss of Samura, the School of Business organized meetings with Samura’s business orientation team, friends, faculty, and staff to offer support and guidance during this difficult time. The university has extended its full support to all those affected by the tragedy and encouraged anyone in need to seek professional help for grief counseling.
Dr. Agarwal, who specializes in information systems and network security, has been teaching at Howard for 23 years. It is uncertain whether he will return to teaching at the university after his recovery or if there will be any changes to traffic signage around Cook Hall in response to the car crash. The MPD investigation into the accident is still ongoing, as confirmed by the police department and a lawyer representing Samura’s family.
