Scottie Scheffler chose to skip the Wells Fargo Championship in order to prepare for the birth of his first child with his wife, Meredith. The couple was still waiting for the baby’s arrival as of last Thursday, with the year’s second major, the PGA Championship, approaching. Despite missing the Wells Fargo Championship, Scheffler is listed on the pre-tournament interview schedule for Tuesday at 3:30 p.m. ET.

The deadline for players to commit to the PGA Championship is next Tuesday at 5 p.m., unless the player informs the PGA of America otherwise. Scheffler mentioned at last month’s RBC Heritage, which he won, that he plans to take a break when the baby arrives. He stated, “I don’t know what life looks like. But up until when the baby comes, I’m going to play this week and then I’ll go home and basically just wait. We’re due at the end of the month. We’ll see when the baby comes.”

After winning the Masters last month and delivering outstanding performances with four wins in his last five starts, Scheffler is considered the top contender for the upcoming PGA Championship at Valhalla. His absence from the Wells Fargo Championship is a strategic decision to focus on his family before the major tournament begins.
