Seeking sustained success: Brad Holmes advises against an “all-in” approach

The Lions came close to reaching the Super Bowl in 2023, losing in the NFC Championship Game to the 49ers. Detroit is one of 12 teams that have never won a Super Bowl. General Manager Brad Holmes is focused on creating sustained success for the team, similar to what the Patriots and Chiefs have achieved. Rather than going all-in for one title like the Rams did in 2021, Holmes wants the Lions to focus on improving every year through their process.

The Lions have built their team through the draft, selecting players like offensive lineman Penei Sewell, receiver Amon-Ra St. Brown, edge rusher Aidan Hutchinson, and others as part of their homegrown talent. Quarterback Jared Goff was acquired in a trade with the Rams in 2021, and the team added players like defensive back Carlton Davis, defensive tackle D.J. Reader, and offensive guard Kevin Zeitler in the offseason.

As the Lions prepare for the upcoming draft, where they hold the 29th pick, Holmes emphasized the importance of sticking to their process. He mentioned the possibility of trading out of the first round and hoped fans would understand if they did. The team is focused on continued improvement and building a competitive roster for the future.
