Serena Williams expresses strong interest in owning WNBA team

Candace Parker recently discussed the increasing popularity of women’s basketball at both the collegiate and professional levels. As the 2024 WNBA Draft approaches, there is a growing interest in women’s sports, leading to athletes like Serena Williams considering ownership of professional women’s basketball teams.

In a recent interview with CNN, Serena Williams expressed her interest in becoming a WNBA owner, citing the excitement and potential for investment in women’s sports. Williams, who is already involved in sports ownership with Angel City FC in the NWSL and the Los Angeles Golf Club team in the Tomorrow Golf League, sees the rising spotlight on women’s basketball as a positive step for women’s sports as a whole.

Williams emphasized the importance of giving women’s sports the recognition they deserve, noting that while tennis has received international acclaim, other sports like women’s soccer and basketball also deserve to be celebrated on a similar platform. She believes that women’s sports are finally getting the attention they have always deserved and hopes to contribute to their continued growth and success through ownership and support.

The increasing interest and investment in women’s basketball reflect a broader trend towards recognizing and celebrating women’s sports. As more high-profile athletes like Serena Williams become involved in supporting and owning women’s sports teams, the visibility and popularity of these sports are likely to continue to rise, paving the way for a more inclusive and equitable future in athletics.
