The Pinelands Preservation Alliance is hosting a Pinelands Science Forum on June 13 to discuss the important relationship between forests, forestry practices, and climate change. The forum will feature speakers from various regulatory agencies, academia, and nonprofits who will share their research on the benefits of tree planting and the impact of forestry practices on carbon absorption.
Forests play a crucial role in absorbing carbon, but they are often heavily manipulated. The forum will explore the tools available for identifying locations for tree planting, as well as the pros and cons of different forestry practices. Registration for the event is open until June 3, with an early bird fee of $35 per person available until May 15. After May 15, the cost to attend is $45.
The day-long forum will be held at the PPA’s renovated barn at 17 Pemberton Rd. in Southampton. The barn is handicap-accessible, with an elevator to the second floor. Attendees will receive a light breakfast and lunch, as well as a short tour of PPA’s Rancocas Creek Farm. Presentations will be recorded and shared publicly for those who are unable to attend.
