The inaugural CSRA Homeschool Science Fair at SOAR Academy in Martinez provided homeschooled students, like eighth-grader Jacob Lott, with the opportunity to compete in a science fair for the first time. Lott was surprised and excited to win at the event, which featured over a dozen homeschoolers presenting projects on a wide range of topics.

The science fair was organized by homeschool moms Megan Berry and Amber Baxley, who wanted to provide homeschool kids with the experience of participating in a science fair. The event was hosted at SOAR Academy, a non-traditional private school that supports school choice and equal opportunities for all students.

Participants at the science fair had the chance to explore each other’s projects and interact with various animals, such as snakes, lizards, and honey bees. Jenny Jewett, whose son Silas was also a winner at the event, expressed her pride in her child’s success and gratitude for the opportunity for homeschool students to engage in scientific exploration.

Looking forward, Baxley and her team plan to expand the science fair next year by involving more participants and volunteers. The goal is to continue fostering excitement for science among homeschool students and provide them with a platform to showcase their scientific curiosity and creativity.
