Sol 1250: Initiating Contact Science Operations

The Sol 1249 drive was successful, placing the rover in an area with numerous bright bedrock outcrops. Among these, a large outcrop, partially visible on the left side of the image above, has been chosen as the target for dumping the sand sample and examining it over the weekend. Following ChemCam and Mastcam observations of the bedrock target named “Kuiseb,” the rover will reverse, adjust its position slightly to the left, and then move forward to position the large outcrop within reach of the robotic arm. Extensive images of the workspace will be taken post-drive to aid in selecting dump and contact science targets for the following day.

The dates of planned rover activities as described in these reports can change due to various factors such as the Martian environment, communication relays, and the status of the rover. Plans may be adjusted accordingly to ensure the success of the mission.
