Following the aftermath of three powerful tornados that struck the capital city and county on May 10, many individuals are still dealing with physical and mental damage caused by the destructive winds. The process of restoring homes and adjusting to life without basic comforts like internet can be challenging and may contribute to feelings of stress and anxiety. If you or someone you know is struggling with mental health issues related to the storm recovery and loss, there are resources available to help.

One option is to call the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration (SAMHSA) disaster distress hotline at (800) 985-5990 for support. Additionally, SAMHSA provides a resource titled “Tips for Survivors of a Disaster or Other Traumatic Event: Coping with Re-traumatization,” which may offer helpful guidance during this difficult time. For round-the-clock support, you can contact the 211 Big Bend support line by dialing 211 or (850) 617-6333.
