According to the U.S. National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, the accelerator pedal on Cybertrucks may become stuck when pressed. Electric car manufacturer Tesla is recalling nearly 4,000 Cybertruck cars in the United States for repair to fix a defect that can cause the car’s gas pedal to get stuck when pressed. A stuck gas pedal can cause the car to accelerate unintentionally, increasing the risk of a crash. The recall applies to all model year 2024 Cybertruck vehicles manufactured between November 13 and April 4, totaling 3,878 cars called for repair.

Tesla began delivering Cybertruck vehicles to customers in late November after several delays. It is estimated that practically all Cybertrucks delivered to customers since the launch of the vehicle will be affected by the recall. The issue is caused by the use of soap as a lubricant in the assembly of the pedals, resulting in the cover of the pedal not being properly attached. When the gas pedal is pressed hard, the cover may come off, causing the pedal to get stuck in the upholstery around the footwell. Thankfully, Tesla is not aware of any crashes or injuries resulting from the accelerator pedal failure.

The Wall Street Journal reported that Tesla has postponed deliveries of Cybertruck cars for some customers, although no reason was given for the delay. Customers have reported problems related to the gas pedal on social media, prompting NHTSA to be in contact with Tesla to learn more about the issue. It is important to stay updated on any announcements from Tesla regarding the recall and to take necessary precautions if you own a Cybertruck.
