The 2022 plane crash in Iceland that resulted in three victims from our country was determined to be caused by human error according to the research report. The crash, which took the lives of three passengers and the pilot, occurred when the Cessna C172 attempted to land on Lake Þingvalla, which was unable to support the weight of the aircraft. The final report from the Transportation Accident Investigation Committee revealed that the wheels of the plane fell through the ice upon landing, leading to the tragic accident.

The victims of the crash included three employees of the fashion label Suspicious Antwerp, who were on a flight over the Golden Circle route in Iceland with pilot Haraldur Diego. The aircraft disappeared from radar without sending a distress signal, and none of the occupants survived. The autopsy revealed that the occupants died from drowning after the plane sank with its wheels through the ice and submerged in the lake. The occupants were not wearing life jackets, which were found in the wreckage.

Among the victims were Dutchman Tim Alings, who lived in Antwerp with his family and worked as a marketer for the fashion label, as well as Nicola Bellavia, a lover of skydiving from Walloon Brabant. Skater Josh Neuman, who had a large following on YouTube, was also on board and tragically lost his life in the crash. The investigation could not determine whether the pilot made a deliberate short landing on the frozen lake or had to make an emergency landing.

The incident serves as a reminder of the importance of safety measures and precautions when traveling by air, and the tragic loss of life that can result from human error in aviation.
