The Vibrant Music Scene and Economic Impact of Downtown Cincinnati

Good morning everyone, I’m Jeff Suess, your local history guide. I have a great appreciation for Cincinnati’s murals, as they add vibrant colors and creative expression to the city’s buildings. What I love most about them is how they are connected to our history, showcasing everything from canal boats to Kenner toys. The murals invite us to learn more about the subjects they depict.

One of my favorite murals is the large one across from the Duke Energy Convention Center, featuring portraits of 10 influential musicians from Cincinnati. Names like James Brown, Doris Day, and the Isley Brothers are prominently featured. Even with my years of researching the city’s history, I encountered a few names on the mural that were unfamiliar to me and needed some additional research.

In other news for Friday, April 19, the weather will be cooler with considerable cloudiness and a high of 66 degrees. Downtown Cincinnati’s economy is recovering faster than most major metros, new data shows. There is speculation that Rumpke may be looking for Jason Kelce’s lost Super Bowl ring in a landfill. A court ruled that Gov. Mike DeWine lacked the authority to remove a teachers’ pension board member. Cincinnati Bearcat Carl Bouldin had a memorable year in 1961.

In today’s top stories, the Cincinnati Zoo’s gorilla, Gladys, underwent surgery after breaking her arm in a fight. Three juveniles were arrested after a woman was attacked on a Metro bus in Colerain Township. The average cost for child care in Ohio is over $11,000 for an infant, prompting discussions on how the state can assist. A man was arrested in the fatal shooting of a 21-year-old near the University of Cincinnati. Toledo transfer guard Dante Maddox Jr. announced his commitment to the Xavier Musketeers.
