The Slovenian state highway management company, DARS, made a public appeal to the Slovenian Ministry of Public Administration on Friday. They requested that public administration employees work from home as much as possible during the month of May to help relieve traffic congestion on the roads, particularly during the May Day holidays. This was the first time DARS had made such an appeal.

DARS warned the ministry that traffic jams were expected to increase on Slovenian roads during the May Day holidays, as both tourists and daily commuters would be traveling. They emphasized that the appeal was aimed at reducing traffic in the capital city of Ljubljana, where congestion is typically the worst. Based on past experiences, DARS believed that having public administration employees work from home would improve traffic flow in the city.

The Ministry was provided with dates when road conditions were expected to be at their worst. However, according to unofficial information, the ministry did not plan to follow DARS’ recommendations, suggesting that a decision should be made by the Government instead. Police departments in areas like Koper also issued warnings about increased traffic during the holiday period.
