The Western Athletic Conference (WAC) has extended an invitation to The University of Texas Rio Grande Valley (UTRGV) to become an affiliate member in the sports of men’s soccer and women’s swimming & diving. UTRGV accepted the invitation and will start competing as an affiliate member in both sports from the 2024-25 academic year onwards.
UTRGV has been a member of the WAC in men’s soccer since 2015 when the program was re-established. The UTRGV men’s soccer team will continue to compete as an affiliate member during the 2024-25 academic year. In addition, UTRGV Athletics will introduce its women’s swimming & diving program in the fall of 2024. The team will compete at the state-of-the-art City of Pharr Natatorium, which previously hosted the 2023 and 2024 WAC Swimming & Diving Championships.
The acceptance of the affiliate membership invitation marks a significant milestone for UTRGV Athletics and further expands the university’s presence within the WAC. This partnership will provide student-athletes at UTRGV with more opportunities to compete at a high level and showcase their talents in both men’s soccer and women’s swimming & diving. The UTRGV community is looking forward to supporting these teams as they represent the university in the WAC.
