A new restaurant with a sports bar and arcade is expected to open soon in Edgartown. The town’s select board approved Carlos Gomes Teles Filho’s liquor license application for his new establishment, Seagrass Bar and Grill, located in the former Sharky’s Cantina on Upper Main Street.
The restaurant will feature games in the area that previously housed a Brazilian bakery, while the bar and restaurant will occupy the former Sharky’s space. Mr. Teles plans to serve pub food like burgers, pizza, and seafood, but he did not provide an estimated opening date during the board meeting.
Work on the new restaurant has been ongoing for several months since Sharky’s Cantina closed in 2022 due to lease issues. Mr. Teles, who also owns a landscaping company, is the mastermind behind the Square Rigger in Edgartown and Nina’s Dine and Dash in Vineyard Haven.
During the meeting, the Edgartown select board, with members Margaret Serpa and Arthur Smadbeck present, expressed their support for the new establishment. Michael Donroma, a select board member who owns a neighboring garden center, was not in attendance.
Ms. Serpa commented on how the restaurant has been revitalized and will continue to serve the community for years to come. Mr. Smadbeck wished Mr. Teles good luck with his new venture, to which the owner jokingly replied that he would need it.
