Vandalism delays opening of Laurium business

The planned opening of a new business in Laurium has been delayed indefinitely after it was vandalized earlier in the week. Fitzgerald’s Restaurant in Eagle River is collecting donations to support the business owner, Erin Turner, whose bakery, Copper Country Sweets, was targeted by vandals who threw a brick through the front window.

In a Facebook post on Copper Country Sweets’ page, Turner informed customers that the grand opening has been postponed due to the vandalism. The Fitz, owned by Mike LaMotte, has organized a fundraising campaign to assist Turner and her business. They are collecting donations through an event on Tock, covering taxes and fees to ensure all the money goes to Turner. Additionally, the Fitz is contributing $500 to the cause.

The Tock page allows people to purchase tickets to donate to Turner’s business, demonstrating that there is more good in the community than bad. The Laurium Police Department could not be reached for comment on the vandalism incident. Those interested in donating can visit www.exploretock.com and search for Fitzgerald’s Restaurant.

Overall, the community is coming together to support Turner and her business in the face of this unfortunate incident.
