During a high school senior skip day party at a park in Greenbelt, Maryland, five people were shot, according to police. The shooting took place on Hanover Parkway in Prince George’s County. Greenbelt Police Chief Rick Bowers stated that hundreds of students were attending the party when the shooting occurred around 2:30 p.m. Bowers expressed sympathy for the victims, who were between the ages of 16 and 18, calling it a heartbreaking situation.

The victims were taken to the hospital, with one in critical condition and the others in stable condition. Bowers described the incident as a horrible, tragic, and senseless act, emphasizing that there was no justification for the violence. He mentioned that no arrests have been made, but authorities believe there is one suspect who fled the scene when the shooting began.

Greenbelt Mayor Emmett V. Jordan shared Bowers’ sentiments, questioning the state of the world if high school students cannot gather and enjoy themselves in safety. Both Bowers and Jordan expressed their determination to apprehend the suspect and appealed to the public for assistance in solving the crime.
