In 2022, Tesla introduced Optimus, a 1.73-meter-tall and 57 kg robot prototype with limited capabilities. Now, Elon Musk has announced the upcoming release of Optimus Gen 2 at the end of 2025. The new model offers improved mobility in the neck and hands, along with sensors in the fingers for handling delicate objects with varying pressure levels. This second generation can walk 30% faster, maintain better balance, and has reduced weight by 10 kg without sacrificing functions.

Musk has mentioned that while Optimus currently performs simple factory tasks, new abilities are being tested in the lab. The goal is for the humanoid robot to be able to perform more useful tasks by the end of the year. The company aims to launch Optimus on the market by 2025, but Musk acknowledges that the timeline is subject to change and uncertain.

Optimus features a human-like shape, integrated cameras for monitoring, and a powerful artificial intelligence system akin to Tesla’s autonomous cars. The robot has a 2.3 kWh battery and 40 electromechanical joints for enhanced mobility. It can lift loads up to five kilograms with a single arm, transport up to 25 kilos, and lift dead weights up to 75 kilos.

While Tesla leads the robot development race, competitors like Apple, Amazon, and Boston Dynamics are also investing in robotics. Apple is exploring domestic robot development, Amazon focuses on home robots working with Alexa, and Boston Dynamics continues to enhance its humanoid robot, Atlas. Each company has specific goals and strategies for their robot projects.

As the advancement of robotics continues, the market is evolving with different companies working on innovative solutions for various tasks and environments. The competition in the robotics industry is fierce, with each brand aiming to offer unique and valuable robotic products to meet consumer needs and preferences.
