Elections in Panama are set to take place on Sunday, May 5, with citizens having to choose between eight presidential candidates. The election of the President, district mayors, and township representatives will be decided by a simple majority in a single turn, marking the seventh vote since the US invasion that ended the dictatorship of Manuel Antonio Noriega in 1989.
The Electoral Court is estimating an 80% participation rate in the elections, with 2,982 voting centers being set up for citizens to cast their votes.
