James Whomsley, a British YouTube engineering channel host, recently achieved a Guinness World Record for building the world’s largest remote-controlled aircraft carrier model. In addition, he successfully landed two remote control model planes on the carrier, earning him another world record. The project took him three months to complete and the aircraft carrier model is constructed from wood, foam, and fiberglass. To make it waterproof, expanding foam was used in its construction.

After building the model aircraft carrier, Whomsley had to learn how to fly the remote-controlled planes and modify them to successfully land on the carrier. He added first-person view cameras to the model aircraft to improve visibility during landings. The model planes used in the project were modified ready-to-fly models. Test flights and landings were conducted at Rudyard Lake in Straffordshire.

During testing, one of the model planes crashed into the water. The YouTube video documenting his attempts to land the planes also shows part of the building process. Prior to this project, Whomsley set a Guinness World Record for the fastest remote-controlled jet-powered car, which reached a speed of 94.76 mph. The car, equipped with a JetCat 220 engine and an aluminum chassis, was destroyed after reaching a speed of 141 mph during its third run.
