State Senator Joe Addabbo was joined by big names at the state Capitol this week to advocate for a bill aimed at modernizing daily fantasy sports in New York. Former New York Yankees star Tino Martinez expressed his support for the bill, saying that it would enhance the fantasy sports experience for New Yorkers like himself. He shared that participating in daily fantasy sports has brought his family together and allowed him to learn about new players, creating discussions with his kids and mom.

Addabbo highlighted that in addition to updating regulations for daily fantasy sports, the bill would raise the age requirement to participate from 18 to 21. This change aims to close a loophole and align daily fantasy sports with mobile sports betting on a level playing field. He emphasized that as legislators, they are committed to improving the product and ensuring the safety of residents by passing this bill.

Despite concerns about market saturation due to multiple betting options in New York, including horse racing, casinos, and sports betting, Addabbo dismissed these worries. He clarified that daily fantasy sports is a separate track from mobile sports betting and believes that expanding offerings will only enhance the overall experience for sports enthusiasts.

Super Bowl champion David Tyree also voiced his support for the bill, pointing out that in a rapidly changing world of sports, people are looking for opportunities to interact with the games in new ways. He emphasized that the bill provides safeguards and opportunities for fans to engage with sports in a more interactive and engaging manner.
