Elizabeth Levy Paluck, a professor at Princeton University, has been named one of eight fellows by the American Academy of Political and Social Science for her outstanding work in prejudice and conflict reduction. Paluck, recipient of a MacArthur “Genius” Fellowship, is known for her research in developing social norms to address conflict in various environments, including post-conflict regions and high schools. She will serve as the academy’s 2024 David Riesman Fellow.
Paluck’s research focuses on ethnic conflict, political conflict, conflicts among young people in schools, and violence against women. Through large-scale field experiments, she tests interventions targeting social norms and behavior, leading to advancements in the reduction of prejudice, violence, and conflict.
President of the AAPSS, Marta Tienda, expressed enthusiasm in welcoming a new group of accomplished fellows. She emphasized the importance of social science leaders in reimagining American world leadership and securing economic opportunities for future generations. Tienda, also a professor at Princeton, recognized Paluck’s contribution to the field.
Paluck, who joined Princeton in 2009, holds a Ph.D. and B.S. in psychology from Yale University and completed a fellowship at the Harvard Academy for International Affairs. She has received numerous accolades for her work, including two Robert B. Cialdini Awards for field research, an Early Career Award from the American Psychological Association, an honorary degree from Claremont Graduate University, and a Graduate Mentoring Award from the McGraw Center for Teaching and Learning at Princeton.
