The Northwestern Mutual Data Science Institute is hosting its second annual symposium on April 24 at the UWM Student Union. This event, which is free to the public, will focus on the evolving landscape of artificial intelligence and how AI can drive innovation and impact. Attendees can expect to learn about various aspects of AI, hear from industry and academic experts, and network with others in the AI and data science community.

The symposium will begin with a fireside chat at 9:15 a.m. featuring NMDSI leadership, UWM Chancellor Mark Mone, Marquette President Michael Lovell, and Northwestern Mutual Chief Customer Officer Christian Mitchell. Following this, at 10 a.m., Chris Wiggins, an author and Columbia University professor, will deliver the keynote address. Wiggins will discuss how data-empowered products and automated decision systems are shaping our political, professional, and personal realities.

A full schedule of sessions and speakers, as well as registration information, can be found on the symposium’s website. The event will also be livestreamed for those who are unable to attend in person, with a link to the stream becoming available at a later date.

The NMDSI aims to create a technology ecosystem and position southeastern Wisconsin as a leading hub for technology, research, business, and talent development. Since its establishment in 2018, NMDSI has been at the forefront of promoting academic data science education and driving innovation in key areas such as AI, data bias and ethics, behavioral economics, financial literacy, and health and wealth inequities. The institute is dedicated to using data science to address societal issues with both local and national significance.
