Keanu Baccus, a product of the Western Sydney youth system, has signed a two-year deal with Mansfield Town in League One. The 25-year-old midfielder joins the English club from St Mirren in the Scottish Premiership on a free transfer. During his time at St Mirren, Baccus scored three goals in 64 league appearances after coming from Western Sydney in Australia.

Originally born in South Africa, Baccus made his senior international debut with Australia while playing for St Mirren. He has represented the Socceroos 18 times and was the first St Mirren player to feature in a World Cup tournament, appearing in a match against eventual champions Argentina in the round of 16 in Qatar in 2022. Mansfield Town manager Nigel Clough expressed his excitement at signing Baccus, who had been sought after by several clubs, including Bolton Wanderers.

Clough described Baccus as a player with great potential, at the right age, and possessing the attributes that fit well with Mansfield’s style of play. Baccus joins Mansfield as they prepare for their return to England’s third tier after a 21-year absence. He is the second player to be signed by the club since their promotion from League Two, following the return of striker Lee Gregory last week.
