Meritorious Artist Bang Thai, a 72-year-old former director of Quang Ninh Drama Theater and brother of singer Bang Kieu, recently underwent surgery to amputate half of his right foot due to diabetic necrosis. Bang Thai has been battling diabetes for over a decade, which has resulted in severe complications. For the past two years, he has been bedridden, experiencing numbness, burning sensation, and chronic pain in both feet.

Three months ago, a necrotic ulcer appeared on his right leg, starting at the toenail and spreading to the toe. Despite having a toe amputated, the wound failed to heal, leading to further necrosis. After seeking treatment at Tam Anh General Hospital in Hanoi, a multi-specialty team of doctors performed a series of procedures to address the necrosis and revascularize the right leg. The surgeries were successful, and Bang Thai experienced reduced pain levels and improved sleep quality after the amputation.

Following the surgery, doctors emphasized the importance of lifestyle changes for Bang Thai. They advised him to quit smoking, avoid sugary drinks, and maintain proper foot care to prevent further complications. Additionally, a balanced diet and regular monitoring of blood sugar levels were recommended to manage his diabetes effectively. Patients with diabetic foot complications like Bang Thai are advised to undergo periodic screenings to detect potential issues early.

Bang Thai, known for his contributions to the arts, has over 20 works to his name in various creative fields. Despite his health challenges, he remains dedicated to his craft and continues to receive support from medical professionals and psychologists to overcome any setbacks caused by his illness. Through a combination of medical treatment and lifestyle adjustments, Bang Thai is on a path to improved health and well-being.
