Antelopes in South Africa face a challenging situation when confronting both crocodiles in the water and lions on the shore. Recent sightings at the Mkuze nature reserve captured the dynamic interactions between these predators and their prey. Tourist Michaela Crous filmed a female lion stalking a male nyala antelope near a lake. Despite the lion’s stealthy approach, the antelope noticed and managed to escape into the water when the lion lunged at it.

Realizing that it couldn’t outrun the lion, the antelope took to the water in an attempt to evade the hungry predator. However, this move put the antelope at risk of being attacked by crocodiles lurking beneath the surface. Despite the imminent danger, the antelope continued to stand in the water, hoping the lion would eventually give up the chase. When a crocodile unexpectedly attacked the antelope, it utilized its quick reflexes to jump away from the predator and run back to shore.

Back on land, the antelope found itself facing the waiting lion. In a risky move, the antelope charged at the lion with its long horns, causing the predator to retreat in fear. The antelope stood its ground, forcing the lion to abandon its hunt and leave the scene. The nyala antelope, native to southern Africa, inhabits dense bushes near bodies of water. Despite being prey for numerous predators, including lions, leopards, wild dogs, and birds of prey, this encounter showcased the antelope’s resilience and survival instincts.
