Canisius University has selected Tiffany Swoffard, a former Penn State assistant, as the new head coach for its women’s basketball team. With 19 years of experience as a college assistant, this will be Swoffard’s first head-coaching position. She will be taking over the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference program, replacing Sahar Nusseibeh, who recently joined Eastern Michigan’s coaching staff.

Swoffard will be leading the team in Buffalo, New York, as they come off a successful 17-14 season. This was the Golden Griffins’ first winning season since 2008-09. Originally from Chattanooga, Tennessee, Swoffard has had coaching stints at Miami, Ohio, Toledo, Mercer, Division II Arkansas-Fort Smith, and Rowan University, a Division III school based in New Jersey. At Miami and Toledo, she served as the recruiting coordinator for both Mid-American Conference programs.

As a former player, Swoffard has experience in the NCAA Tournament, making appearances with Austin Peay in 2001 and 2002. Canisius University is looking forward to the leadership and experience that Swoffard will bring to the women’s basketball program as they strive for continued success.
