He expressed his excitement at winning in Mexico after a difficult season last year where he didn’t win anything. This victory in Mexico will be his first Hyundai Archery World Cup Final appearance.
Jyothi Surekha Vennam, on the other hand, will be appearing in her second Hyundai Archery World Cup Final after participating in Hermosillo last year. She secured her slot in the final by beating the top-seeded archer from Mexico. It was a close match as Andrea Becerra had a point to lose with an arrow to go. However, her last shot broke high, landing in the eight, which gave Vennam the opportunity to secure the win.
The Hyundai Archery World Cup is currently in its season with three stages instead of four. The points accrued from high finishes in Shanghai put archers in good positions to qualify for the final based on rankings, even if they did not win a stage like Vennam and Wiener. The competition in Shanghai will conclude with recurve finals on Sunday.
