Court in Manhattan imposes fines on Trump for social media posts

Former US President Donald Trump was fined $9,000 by a Manhattan criminal court for nine social media posts that were seen as violating a gag order and contempt of court. The judge warned Trump that he could face jail time if such violations occurred again. The trial in Manhattan’s criminal court involves cash payments from Trump to porn actress Stormy Daniels in relation to her silence about an extramarital affair with a politician.

This historic trial is the first criminal case against a former US president and coincides with Trump’s participation in the presidential election campaign. Trump attempted to postpone the trial but was unsuccessful. In addition to this case, Trump is facing more charges related to his actions during the 2020 presidential election and the storming of the Capitol on January 6, 2021 by his supporters. Proceedings for these cases have yet to begin.

Trump has claimed that these charges are an attempt by Democrats to prevent him from running for office. The US Constitution allows a convicted individual to run for office unless they participated in a rebellion. Trump’s involvement in the events of January 6 could lead to such charges being brought against him. The ongoing legal battles are a significant part of the current political landscape in the US.
