Debut of Mercedes-Benz G580 featuring EQ Technology at Auto China 2024 | Vehicles

The all-new Mercedes-Benz G 580 with EQ Technology is the first fully electric variant of the brand’s iconic off-road vehicle. It combines tradition with progress, maintaining the G-Class’s signature angular silhouette and iconic design elements. The body is built on a reinforced ladder frame to integrate the electric drive system, while retaining the independent front suspension and newly developed rigid rear axle.

Equipped with a high-voltage lithium-ion battery with a capacity of 116 kWh, the electric G 580 offers a range of up to 473 kilometers according to WLTP standards. The four independently controlled electric motors near the wheels provide a maximum output of 432 kW, delivering unique driving characteristics and exclusive off-road functions. This includes the G-TURN feature for turning the vehicle almost on the spot on loose surfaces and G-STEERING for a smaller off-road turning radius.

The three-speed intelligent off-road crawl function acts like cruise control for off-roading, ensuring optimal propulsion while navigating challenging terrain. The G 580 with EQ Technology maintains a gradeability of up to 100% on suitable surfaces and remains stable on sideways slopes of up to 35 degrees. With a fording depth of 850 millimeters, it surpasses its conventionally powered counterparts by 150 millimeters.

The LOW RANGE off-road gearing increases traction with a special reduction ratio, while intelligent torque vectoring mimics conventional differential locks. The G-ROAR feature adds a unique sound experience, including a distinctive driving sound, “aura” sound, and a variety of “event” sounds that enhance the driving experience of the all-new electric G-Class.
