The New City Nissan/HHSAA Division I boys volleyball championships saw the best of the Oahu Interscholastic Association and Interscholastic League of Honolulu teams make their way into the semifinals on Thursday. The semifinals will feature ten-time defending state champion Punahou taking on OIA runner-up Mililani, followed by OIA champion Moanalua facing ILH runner-up Kamehameha.
Playing at home in Hemmeter Fieldhouse, Punahou had a dominant performance against Kamehameha-Hawaii, winning in straight sets without any player reaching double-digit kills. Mililani also had a strong showing, with Aris Mateo and Tyler Duranceau combining for 37 kills in their victory over Kamehameha-Maui.
Moanalua advanced to the semifinals by defeating Roosevelt, while Kamehameha rode the impressive performance of Kainoa Wade to secure a win against Hilo. This year’s tournament marks the third time in the last four editions that only Oahu teams have reached the semifinals.
In Division II, a first-time state champion is guaranteed. The semifinals will see Konawaena facing Le Jardin, followed by University Lab taking on Molokai at Kalani High. Kainoa Wade’s strong performance for Kamehameha has been a highlight of the tournament, showcasing his talent on the court.
