Sheikh Mohammed emphasized that the construction of the new terminal is part of a larger project in Dubai South, where a city will be built around the airport. The CEO of Dubai Airports, Paul Griffiths, expressed confidence that the development of Al Maktoum International Airport will solidify Dubai’s position as a top aviation hub. The new airport, which opened in 2010, will be the new home of flagship carrier Emirates and feature five parallel runways and 400 aircraft gates. Dubai International Airport has been the busiest airport for international travel for a decade, with record-breaking numbers of passengers in recent years.
