The New Zealand squad for the upcoming T20 World Cup has been announced, with surprises and excitement surrounding the selections. Experienced batter Colin Munro did not make a return, but young talent Rachin Ravindra and fast bowler Matt Henry were included as two players who have yet to feature in a T20 World Cup.

In addition to the squad, young pacer Ben Sears will travel as a reserve for the team’s matches in the USA and West Indies if needed. Coach Gary Stead expressed his belief in the well-balanced squad, stating his confidence in their ability to put in a strong performance throughout the tournament.

Stead congratulated the players on their selection and emphasized the honor of representing their country on such a global stage. He highlighted the importance of adapting to various conditions, considering the diverse venues in the West Indies where the matches will take place.

Stead is particularly excited to see how Henry and Ravindra will perform in their T20 World Cup debuts, praising their hard work and dedication. He noted Henry’s improvement in all aspects of the game and Ravindra’s impressive trajectory in recent months, especially in the T20 format against Australia.

The New Zealand team will kick off their campaign against Afghanistan in Guyana on June 7, followed by matches against co-hosts West Indies, Uganda, and Papua New Guinea in Group C. The squad includes players like Kane Williamson, Trent Boult, Tim Southee, and others, with a focus on versatility and adaptability in varying conditions.
